Medical Assistant
General Summary of Duties: Assist the providers with basic patient care, clerical,
environmental and organizational tasks.
Supervision Received: Clinic Administrator and Physician
Supervision Exercised: None
Essential Functions:
1) Accompany patients to exam/procedure room
2) Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, etc.
3) Obtaining a patient history including vitals
4) Performing screenings, tests and procedures per provider guidelines
5) Assists physician in relaying instructions to patients/families
6) Assist with charting patients visit or contact with the office
7) Answering calls and providing pertinent information
8) Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
9) Sending/Receiving medical records
10) Obtaining Lab reports, x-ray reports, hospital correspondence
11) Completing requisition forms as needed
12) Scheduling outside appointments for patients
13) Charting and documenting as appropriate
14) Setting up instruments and equipment according to the protocol
15) Cleaning exam rooms/procedure rooms
16) Cleaning instrument and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection
control
17) Sorting, storing and restocking supplies in exam rooms and lab
18) Performing EKG’s, Immunizations, and lab draws as requested by a provider
19) Rooming patients after the initial check-in process
20) Ability to fill for other staff and cover in case of sickness or vacation
Education:
High school diploma or GED
Successful completion of Medical Assistant course through an accredited school with
Certification or Registration
Experience: Minimum of one year in a healthcare setting,
Requirement’s: Maintain CPR certification; Obtain appropriate CEU’s to maintain certification

Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Well – lighted, well-
ventilated, adequate space.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient
transfers and helping patients with walking. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
