Medical Transcriptionist
JOB TITLE: Medical Transcriptionist
General Summary of Duties: Create written versions of audio recordings, testing outcomes, and conversations. This involves listening to audio and translating it into long-form text, reviewing drafts, and liaising to ensure accuracy of the final documents.
Supervision Received: Clinic Administrator, Physicians
Supervision Exercised: None
Essential Functions:
- Receiving Prerecorded Audio Notes from Physician Procedures
- Reviewing Audio Recordings for Content
- Transcribing Recordings to Type-Written Format using Keyboard, Computer, and Audio Control Equipment
- Transcribe medical reports from a mechanical source with speed and accuracy
- Submitting transcribed documents for inclusion in official patient records
- Reviewing transcribed documents for accuracy
- Ability to adjust to various styles of dictation

Education: High school diploma
Experience: Minimum of two years in a clinical practice
Requirement’s: 2 years of secretarial or stenographic experience
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of correct use of English, grammar and punctuation
- Knowledge of the computer programs, spread sheets and applications
- Knowledge of medical terminology, office procedures
Skills:
- Skill in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment, discretion and decision making
- Skill in analyzing situations accurately and seeking appropriate advice/help
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees, policy-making bodies, third party payers, patients and the public.
- Skill in organizing work, achieving goals and objectives.

- Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems and correct errors
- Ability to establish and maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to conceptualize work flow, develop plans, and implement appropriate actions
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a busy office environment and requires desk and counter work. Frequent contact with employees, patients and outside agencies. May involve dealing with angry or upset people. Evening or weekend work as necessary.
Physical/Mental Demands:
Requires frequent mobility, extended periods of sitting. Manual dexterity for using a calculator and compute keyboard. Some bending and stooping
