Job Title: Physician Assistant/Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Night Coverage)
General Summary of Duties: Responsible for providing medical care as delegated by the physician
Supervision Received: Physician, Practice Administrator
Supervision Exercised: None
Hours:
1) Part Time, PM Coverage (6PM – 7AM) averaging 18 hours per week or 1-2 days per 7-day week
2) Ability to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotation with other team members
Essential Functions:
1) Assesses patient health status including: wellness, compliance with care plan, determines appropriate screening, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
2) Provides acute and chronic patient care including taking histories, doing physicals, monitoring therapies, giving injections and medications, suturing wounds
3) Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems
4) Responds to emergencies including use of CPR
5) Documents patient information and care provided inpatient records and maintains department statistics. Uses computer to access/enter needed data.
6) Educates patients and families as appropriate. Provides continuity of care.
7) Consults with other staff as necessary
8) Maintains patient confidentiality.
The job holder must demonstrate current competencies applicable to job position
Education: Graduate of an Accredited Physician Assistant or APRN program
Experience: Minimum of one-year experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
Requirements: Current State of Kansas License, certified by the NCCPA or NCSBN as appropriate to specialty
Knowledge:
1) Knowledge of acute and chronic care protocols, administration of medications, delivering physical care following treatment plan
2) Knowledge of cardiovascular care protocols
3) Knowledge of how to assess patient health and measure/record physiologic and growth indices
4) Knowledge of health promotion principles and techniques and patient learning measurements
Skills:
1) Skill in gathering and analyzing physiological, socioeconomic and emotional patient data
2) Skill in accurately evaluating patient problems in person or via phone and providing appropriate advice, intervention or referral
3) Skill in evaluating and revising care plan based on patient changes
Abilities:
1) Ability to make responsible decisions within the scope of a dependent medical practitioner
2) Ability to project a pleasant and professional image
3) Ability to develop health education programs and materials
4) Ability to work collaboratively with all members of health care team
Environmental/Working Conditions:
Multiple Hospital settings with the ability to travel between them. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to a hospital. Frequent contact with a variety of people
Physical/Mental Demands:
Standing, sitting, walking, bending, twisting, stooping. Requires ability to help transfer a patient. Occasional stress from dealing with multiple tasks and tense patients. Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination.
