ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN I OR II - ENERGY SERVICES (based on qualifications) - The City of Monroe Energy Services Department is seeking a highly skilled professional for an Engineering Technician I or II position. Under the supervision of the Design Engineering Manager, the Technician provides engineering plans, specifications, and support to electric and natural gas departments for primary/mains, service lines, and fiber optic infrastructure. Evaluate residential, commercial, and industrial building plans with regard to service characteristics and location of service entrance equipment for electric or natural gas. Meet with customers/contractors to mutually agree on service line route, meter location, security lights, and other facilities. Perform field surveys and stake construction for new construction projects and will prepare cost estimates for electric and gas relocations, upgrades, and services. Perform calculations for transformer, fuse sizing, and electric or natural gas meter sizing. Complete and submit appropriate permit applications for NCDOT, NCDEMLR, US Army Corp of Engineers, and other governing agencies. Responsible to maintain as-builts, project files, and records. For storms, accidents, etc., the Technician offers assistance as needed during system restoration.
Engineering Technician I candidates should have some knowledge in surveying and civil engineering practices, procedures and techniques, engineering maps and records, mathematics and trigonometry as applied to engineering calculations. The candidate should possess the ability to operate standard office, word processing, data entry equipment, AutoCAD and ESRI GIS software programs. The candidate must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering technology or related field with minimal surveying and engineering experience.
Engineering Technician II candidates should have general knowledge in surveying and civil engineering practices, procedures and techniques, engineering maps and records, mathematics and trigonometry as applied to engineering calculations. The candidate should possess the ability to operate standard office, word processing, data entry equipment, AutoCAD and ESRI GIS software programs. The candidate must possess a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited community college with major course work in engineering technology or related field with considerable surveying and engineering experience.
The candidate must possess an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina. Engineering Technician I: Grade 13, salary range $38,022 to $58,947. Engineering Technician II: Grade 15, salary range $41,933 to $65,000.
