The Director of Operations is responsible for, will provide oversight, and will also manage the activities of capital projects, maintenance, custodial, grounds, food service, supply, and transportation activities to ensure efficient operation of the school district. Salary: $95,000 - 105,000 with benefits.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in education, business or related disciplines (MS or higher is
- preferred).
- Two years of educational administration or business experience is preferred.
- Possess a working knowledge of Kansas public school transportation issues,
- guidelines and laws.
- Possess a working knowledge of Kansas public school food service issues,
- guidelines and laws.
- Possess a working knowledge of Kansas public school bid laws and procurement
- Possess a working knowledge of state and federal laws/statutes governing
- Americans with disabilities, asbestos abatement, workers compensation and
- health and safety issues that pertain to Kansas public schools.
- Possess a working knowledge of the state and federal laws/statutes governing
- insurance programs, including worker compensation insurance, as they apply to
- Kansas public schools.
- Possess a working knowledge of physical plant operations in Kansas public
- Desire to continue career improvements.
- Experience in managing budgets preferred.
Essential Functions:
- Knowledge, Skill and Abilities:
- Manage maintenance, custodial, grounds, food service, supply and
- transportation activities to ensure efficient and lawful functioning of the
- school district.
- Ensure that all activities conform to district guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and
- Supervise personnel assigned under Director of Operations.
- Annually develop the capital outlay plan in coordination and cooperation
- with the Director of Finance..
- Develop specifications and requirements for acquisition of materials and
- services and oversee the selection processes and timelines.
- Coordinate and manage physical risk mitigation efforts in facilities.
- Supervise the district's facility expansion and construction programs.
- Ensure applicable state and federal reports are submitted timely with
- correct information.
- Support the value of an education.
- Support the mission and philosophy of Derby Public Schools.
- Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.
- Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Requires the ability to sit and work on a computer for prolonged periods.
- Occasionally requires the ability to stoop, bend and reach.
- Requires the ability to travel.
- Must be able to work long and irregular hours.
- Must have the ability to handle emotional/physical stress.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors year-round.
- Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
- Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
General Responsibilities:
- Manage maintenance, custodial, grounds, food service, supply and
- transportation activities.
- Prepare reports and maintain records required by statute.
- Evaluate departmental services and personnel.
- Manage insurance programs.
- Responsible for policies, procedures, and practices of inventory, warehousing
- and distribution.
- Assist in all preconstruction planning.
- Visit all construction sites frequently to monitor progress and inspect new
- Review and approve payment of bills submitted by architects, contractors and
- Receive and file proper and appropriate insurance policies and bonds related to
- construction projects.
- Maintain liaison with governmental agencies related to construction projects and
- compliance issues.
- Make recommendations on time extensions and change orders.
- Coordinate utility services and easements.
- Maintain all necessary records and prepare periodic reports.
- Assume leadership in the development of policies, procedures and practices that
- apply to this area of responsibility.
- Supervise annual evaluations of all employees and programs under the
- jurisdiction of the Director of Operations.
- Attend regular meetings of the board and special meetings as requested.
- Assist as needed in recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating
- support staff personnel.
- Perform tasks as may be required by the board and act as an advisor to the
- superintendent on questions relating to the operations of the district.
- See that district policies are observed during all activities.
- Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
- Other duties as assigned by the superintendent, which are consistent with the
- general requirements and qualifications of the position.
