POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine is currently seeking a Career Specialist to join our team of professionals.
Duties include:
- Manages the development and implementation of the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) Office of Student Affairs (OSA) strategic plan as it relates to career and professional development of medical students. Communicates career related events, workshops and fairs to medical students, faculty and staff to foster and promote career engagement and support.
- Promotes career awareness, exploration and planning through seminars, regular meetings, and other related enhancement programs as needed. Serves as lead contact to plan and implement a four-year career guidance.
- Collaborates with the Central Career and Talent Development unit
- Delivers excellence in customer service to both internal and external organizations and seeks information on programs developed to assist medical students in following their career paths.
- Manages the coordination of professional development annual events including, but not limited to, mock interviews for fourth year medical students, and other the annual career specific programing including, but not limited to: Residency Fair, Specialty Fair, HWCOM Specialty Residency Rounds, Professional Mentoring Programs, and Town Halls (Road to Residency series).
- Serves as a liaison between to various university-wide partners including, but not limited to OSA units, the Academic Advising Program, the Department of Humanities, Health, and Society, the Green Family Foundation Neighborhood HELP® program, and the Division of Research on Health and Evidence-Based Practices to support career path of students and provide opportunities. May supervise lower level staff as needed.
- Works as part of a team with Student Life and Development coordinators to create, facilitate and enhance the integration of professional and career programs into the medical student experience at HWCOM.
- Oversees residency application assistance including longitudinal CV and Personal Statement Review of medical students via the longitudinal Road to Residency course. Provides and tracks specific, individualized feedback to students on CV and Personal Statements; and creates residency application support workshops and materials.
- Maintains knowledge of trends in career guidance, including specialty residency programs and other opportunities by attending and participating in professional development workshops, training related to undergraduate and graduate medical education, and utilizing the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) Careers in Medicine model as a resource.
- Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
- Organizing guidance material to include on HWCOM website/Canvas page, etc. to highlight the career guidance program, workshops, career resources, and other opportunities for medical students. Maintains Canvas Career Guidance page in coordination with the Office of Academic Affairs (OAA) and helps curate list of HWCOM specialty specific mentors.
- Tracks and conducts assessments, evaluations, and reporting of professional and career development programs.
- Manages day-to-day projects, requests, inquiries, and professional development needs of students.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree and two (2) years of related experience; OR Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of related experience.
