4-H County Youth Coordinator
NATURE AND REQUIREMENTS OF POSITION:
Under general supervision, this position provides assistance to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Linn County and to the County Extension Council to provide day to day leadership and management for Linn County 4-H and Youth Programs. ISU Extension and Outreach carries Iowa State’s land-grant mission through the state – everywhere for all Iowans.
Primary Location: ISU Extension & Outreach–Linn County –office based in Cedar Rapids, IA
Status: Full-time hourly position – Schedule may fluctuate as needed to prepare and provide after school and enrichment opportunities. Night and weekend work availability is a must.
Compensation: Hourly commensurate with education and experience; Wage Range: $15-$17

Direct Supervisor: County Extension Education Director
- Assist and provide support for Linn County Youth programs as needed or assigned.
- Works cooperatively with the County Youth Outreach Educator and Youth Program Specialist.
- Follow Extension Council & Iowa State University Extension administrative guidelines.
- Requires initial training with potential of initial and subsequent travel.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT:
- Minimum two-year post-secondary degree.
- Knowledge and experience in working with youth a must. Experience working with K – 12th grade youth preferred. 4-H experience valuable.
- Work experience equivalent to one year of full-time employment.
- Knowledge in recruitment, fundraising, volunteer management, and marketing preferred.
- Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal) and networking skills a must
- Computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent.
- Demonstrated interest in youth and volunteer leadership; ability to work with a team.
- Capable of delegating tasks and coordinating volunteer efforts; conflict management skills.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 20 pounds.
- Employment contingent on successful screening in Child Protection Safety Program (Criminal Background Check).
- Ability to be in the presence of farm animals for extended periods of time is required; knowledge of farm animals valuable but not required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program Development/Maintenance
- Identify potential youth audiences per county guidelines, with an initial concentration on K-3rd.
- Implement/manage 4-H Youth Development programs utilizing research-based curriculum in cooperation with the County Extension Director, County Youth - Outreach Educator, and Youth Specialist.
- Assist in planning, organizing and conducting the 4-H/Youth activities at the County Fair. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: preparing paperwork, assisting with livestock shows and sale, data entry and management, and general support of livestock and exhibit hall activities. During the fair, additional hours will be required.
- Plan and organize Linn County Fair activities as they relate to the K-12 Outreach program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: weigh-in of all species, updating and distribution of fair book, recruiting volunteers, coordinating judging events, recording fair results, premium calculations, ordering ribbons/trophies, and coordinating transportation of state fair exhibits.
- Other 4-H events to plan and facilitate will include, but are not limited to: Share the Fun/Awards program, Volunteer Recognition, Fashion Revue/Clothing Selection, Communications, National 4-H Week, Food Safety Quality Assurance, Camps, Lock-Ins, etc.
- Support educational programming and other areas as assigned.
- Manage financial budgets for individual programs.
- Network with related county organizations.
- Assist with media and marketing efforts as needed.
- Evaluate programs and compile data as needed.
- Attend training and planning sessions when appropriate.
- Youth Development
- Organize and conduct educational activities in Citizenship and Leadership, Healthy Living, STEM, as well as Arts and Communication.
- Encourage development of life skills among program participants
- Volunteer Development
- Recruit and assist in screening process for volunteers for various roles and activities.
- Assist, coordinate, and evaluate volunteers in conducting assigned tasks.
- Volunteer leadership and engagement including organize and maintain volunteer management system (ISOTURE). Organize volunteer training, direct and support volunteers, youth committee and project
- Communication/Relationships
- Contribute as an integral and productive team member of the Linn County Extension Office.
- Represent Iowa State University Extension Services in a professional manner when in the community.
- Provide information and assist in recruiting audiences for activities and events.
- Resource Development
- Identify and utilize staff expertise for the development of the youth program for items outlined in job description.
- Build strong relationships within the Education Community in Linn County.
- Build the 4-H Youth Program in areas determined by the Linn County Extension Council
- Communication and Member Client Support
- Maintain correspondence with 4-H members, volunteers, Extension support staff and the public, including newsletters, news releases and written correspondence. Create ways to provide support to new families and volunteers.
- Implement all 4-H programs using statewide policies and assist with sharing with volunteers and partners.
- Schedule and facilitate meetings with County Youth Council, committees, club leaders and liaison between Extension and Fair Board.
- Coordinate all forms and correspondence for area and state events and opportunities such as State Conference, Area Awards Selection, State Fair, area camps and trips.
- Contribute to social media presence through posts, and news releases, etc.
