Established by the Kansas Legislature in 1968 as the central law enforcement training facility for the state of Kansas (KSA 74-5603), the KU Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC) serves as the headquarters for all law enforcement and police training in Kansas.
KLETC, a unit of the University of Kansas Professional and Continuing Education is located near the community of Yoder, Kansas, 12 miles southeast of Hutchinson. KLETC’s 173-acre campus facilities consist of 15 buildings, including classrooms, offices, firearm and shotgun ranges, two multi-story residence halls with a sleeping capacity of 233; state of the art emergency vehicle driver training course; 800-seat multi-purpose auditorium separable into three isolated training venues; tactical shooting training building; residential crime scene training house; and other maintenance facilities. The center’s mission, as expressed in the Law Enforcement Training Act, KSA 74-5601 et seq., is the promotion and development of improved law enforcement personnel and procedures throughout the state, and pursuant to Kansas law, the training center shall offer to qualified applicants such programs and courses of instruction designed to fulfill this end.
This position performs duties relating to all aspects of groundskeeping, landscaping and snow removal, including operation and maintenance of lawn care and snow removal equipment.
60% Mow lawns, prune bushes and trees, edge walkways and give grounds a manicured look. Prepare and maintain flower beds and landscaped areas, including planting, mulching, weeding, watering, etc. Operate large power lawn mowers, edgers, trimmers, as well as motor vehicles in completion of groundskeeping duties. Spray chemicals to rid grounds of weeds and insects.
10% Complete special landscaping or groundskeeping projects as deemed necessary by supervisor.
10% During winter months or periods of inclement weather, perform minor maintenance duties, i.e. changing lightbulbs and filters, painting, etc.
5% Shovel snow, and operate snow removal equipment, including snow blowers and motor vehicles, during the winter months to keep parking lots, walkways and building entrances cleared and safe.
5% Assist facilities manager in developing plans and schedules for lawn care and planting, mulching and weeding of landscaped areas.
5% Perform regular maintenance and minor repairs on lawn care equipment and tools, as required. Provide recommendations for upgrade or purchase of equipment, tools, etc.
5% Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Six months of experience in groundskeeping or landscape/horticultural work.
- Ability to respond to weather and other emergencies, as needed, anytime day or night, including Saturdays and Sundays.
- Valid driver’s license
