Job Description
New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. Provide leadership for the Forensic Science and Police Science program. Teach administration of justice courses to students as assigned; write course plans; develop courses, including online courses; assist in the acquisition of related instructional materials and supplies; and recommend curricular changes. In addition to teaching, assume advising responsibilities; assist the department and division with administrative and/or committee work; participate in department-, division-, and college-wide discussion and meetings; and complete other duties as assigned. Each semester, teach a minimum of 15 semester hours for day, evening, and/or online classes, both on campus and at off-campus sites as needed, and maintain a minimum of 10 student engagement hours per week. This position supports the college’s mission to “give everyone the opportunity to learn and develop the right skills so lives and communities are strengthened.”
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree with eighteen graduate semester hours in administration of justice.
- Commitment to community college mission.

- Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching approaches, including use of technology as a teaching and learning tool.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including effective communication in teaching/learning situations.
- Commitment to develop and teach online courses.
- Demonstrated skills and/or knowledge of assessment of student learning.
- Commitment to and ability to implement instructional strategies that foster student retention and student success.
- Demonstrated ability to promote and maintain effective and courteous working relationships with college faculty, administrators, and staff.
- Commitment to management and maintenance of a forensic science lab and police science equipment.
*Finalists will be asked to present a sample teaching lesson*
Three current letters of recommendation are required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum two years related occupational experience.
- Experience in forensic science.
- Experience working with forensic science equipment such as gas chromatographs and mass spectrometers.
- Teaching experience.
