Human Resources Specialist, Benefits & Wellness
Position Summary:
The HR Specialist, Benefits & Wellness serves as the first point of contact in providing customer service to employees for all benefit-related inquiries and benefits processing. This position also supports and assists with the University’s employee wellness initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as first point of contact for University faculty and staff for all benefit related inquiries submitted through the service ticket system, benefit team alias email and voice mails.
- Manage tuition remission benefits for University faculty, staff, and eligible family members.
- Manage the workflow inbox of the Workday HRIS as related to benefit transactions.
- Support University faculty and staff with benefit election process, Open Enrollment, and employment status changes.
- Support the University Wellness Committee and supports programs to increase awareness of healthy lifestyles
- Support the compliance of all state and federal laws (e.g. FMLA, CFRA, ADA, COBRA, 403(b), HIPAA, etc.) by following established benefit procedures
- Manage and process all benefit verification requests
- Maintain benefit electronic and paper files
- Serve as a backup to the HR Campus Partner, Benefits & Wellness in all areas including vendor billing and relevant monthly, quarterly and annual audits.
- Provide support to the Director of Benefits & Wellness and HR Campus Partner, Benefits & Wellness, which routinely involves highly confidential information and situations of broad scope, such as project management, research, scheduling, and communications to the CHRO and all HR senior staff.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Update enterprise systems for benefits.
- Manage and distribute all incoming benefits mail to Director and HR Campus Partn
- Support Director of Benefits & Wellness and HR Campus Partner, Benefits & Wellness with benefit and audit projects as assigned.
- Support the planning and facilitation of HR sponsored events.
- Serve as the backup to leave management areas
- With the other HR Campus Partners/Specialists, provides back up support to all areas of HR including general coordination of the front desk.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
- Need to be able to use a keyboard (minimally partial manual dexterity).
- Visual acuity to the level of being able to read computer screen and perform data entry.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years’ experience in a relevant human resources functional role
- Intermediate skill level in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web content management and internet
search software relevant to the position. - Intermediate skill level in function specific database software; demonstrated success in managing data with a high level of accuracy and confidentiality
- Excellent analytical and written communication skills – including phone, letters, email, voice-mail, one-on-one, and the ability to compose effective communications to broad audiences within and outside the university community
- Demonstrated high-level of organizational, communication and customer service skills.
- Competent in the use of office machines, including multi-line telephone system, fax machine, copier.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Workday or similar HRIS
