TS Range: 6/7 ($20.70 hourly)

SUMMARY: The Cancer Prevention Specialist provides patient support and navigation services to assist patients in accessing cancer screening and diagnostic services for patients of the Squaxin Island Clinic. This position is part of the health center team and works to facilitate access to medical care for persons identified with cancer. This position identifies and assists patients to overcome barriers to care such as education, assist with appointment scheduling, transportation, and completing forms. This is a full time position, with 60% of time devoted to women’s breast and cervical cancer related duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Education about breast and cervical cancer screening, including preparation for screening prior to appointment.
- Assists with scheduling appointments for cancer diagnostic procedures i.e., colonoscopy, endoscopy, biopsies etc
- Assists patients with cancer diagnosis to access treatment services
- Arranges or provides transportation as needed
- Gathers reports utilizing EMR to monitor patient screening and testing needs
- Coordinates care with medical clinic to ensure to assess patient ages for appropriate care
- Attends mandatory training
- Works with health team to develop and monitor recommended standards for cancer prevention and screening.
- Ensures documentation is timely, accurate and documented in EHR.
- Completes all forms as required from Tribal health clinic and Northwest Women’s Wellness Program as appropriate.
- Conducts outreach and referral activities to all eligible patients
- Submits timely submission of monthly, quarterly, annual and other reports as required
- Coordinates or provides education and counseling for patients regarding health practices related to cancer.
- Adheres to patient confidentiality.
- Consults with medical and behavioral health providers to ensure integrated and quality care.
- Works with health team to develop patient satisfaction.
- Coordinates mammogram days and reminds patients.
- Other duties as required

- Experience preparing educational materials such as posters, flyers and other communications media is desired;
- Experience working with Native American communities preferred.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s Degree in related field experience, OR an Associate’s Degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience, OR a High School Diploma/GED and 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience working with Native American communities is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common medical journals or educational materials. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the community. Ability to write and develop educational materials for patients.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to understand with mathematical concepts such statistics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several concrete variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have a valid Washington State Drivers License and be insurable under the Tribe’s plan. Must successfully pass a background check.
