Position Overview
The incumbent will provide massage services for clients within the scope of services for a Certified Massage Therapist. Within this framework, the duties are carried out with great latitude for independent professional judgment and action. The incumbent works closely with Watkins Health Services’ (WHS) physicians, physical therapists, and other health care staff in providing services.
The incumbent in this position will see, hear, and possibly have access to confidential information that must be handled in accordance with all relevant state and federal laws and University policies and procedures regarding its use and disclosure.
WHS utilizes computer technology in all aspects of its operations, including an electronic health record system. The incumbent must become familiar with and be able to use the appropriate computer hardware and software programs associated with this position.
The incumbent must become familiar with and adhere to the WHS Customer Service Plan to ensure appropriate interaction and positive outcomes with both internal and external customers.
WHS is a unit within Student Affairs.
Job Description
Follows established protocols when assisting patients and clients to provide appropriate therapeutic treatments. As necessary, consults with Watkins Health Services (WHS) providers to develop and implement therapeutic massage services and education to KU students, faculty, and staff. Properly maintains records in the electronic health system. Determines supply and equipment needs for massage department. Provides support services to the specialist clinic areas as directed.High School Diploma or completion of GED equivalency. Certification as a Massage Therapist through National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) or equivalent. Minimum of three years of providing massage services in a professional, structured environment. Current CPR certification.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or completion of GED equivalency.
- Certification as a Massage Therapist through National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage (NCBTMB) or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of related professional experience in a professional, structured environment.
- CPR certification (current or within 6 months of hire).
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of experience as a Massage Therapist.
- Experience working in a health care facility.
- Experience working with clients experiencing physician illness or injury.
- Experience working with people of varying backgrounds, goals, and philosophies.
- Effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced in application/interview.
