Duties
The qualified candidate is responsible for the entire report generating process including coding, unit testing, bug fixes, implementation, and modifications/extensions. This position involves frequent interaction with the report requestors to fully understand their data needs and to collaborate on report design.
The data analyst will be expected to run queries on complex databases using SQL and other data analysis tools, restructure and merge multiple datasets, clean, recode, and prepare datasets for analyses, resolve data inconsistencies, and take responsibility for completeness and quality of final-form analytic datasets. The candidate will be self-motivated and experienced in data mining and statistical analysis. Experience with report development tools, data warehousing, relational databases, and SQL is required (e.g., extensive experience with MSSQL and Oracle as well as T-SQL and/or PL/SQL). Experience is also required with scientific report designing, development, and deployment and general reporting methodologies, including but not limited to tabular and graphical visualization techniques. Extensive knowledge of data warehousing and data presentation techniques is required. Experience with health care data, and with electronic health records in particular, is strongly preferred.
The position requires a high degree of technical skill, engagement with the scientific process, resourcefulness in problem-solving, as well as outstanding communication and organizational skills to be able to work independently with minimum supervision and direction. The candidate will also need to be flexible with time, able to independently manage multiple priorities simultaneously, and have strong time-management skills.
Position is contingent on continued funding.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in the Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Science field and a minimum of two years of data analyst experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Knowledge of processes and data modeling, data architectural development methodology and working knowledge of databases. Experience using data analysis tool and databases. Demonstrated competence in systems analysis and design and the ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
Master’s degree in a data-oriented field is preferred. Extensive experience with data mining with SQL and use of other data analysis tools (e.g., SAS, Stata, Python, Java, and/or R) along with prior work experience using health care data is strongly preferred. Prior experience extracting analytic datasets from large electronic health record systems is strongly preferred. The candidate will be highly motivated, self-directed, and adept at learning new technical skills when needed. Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential, as well as strong organizational and documentation skills, the ability to work on multiple projects effectively, and meet deadlines.
