The Office of Communications and Marketing at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, seeks applications and nominations for the position of marketing data analyst. The analyst uses data gathering tools and audience inputs to provide timely analysis, reporting, and recommendations in support of the university's marketing and communication goals.

The Office of Communications and Marketing is dedicated to advancing the university’s reputation. We craft audience-focused communications based on data, best-practices, and emerging trends. The division employs more than 50 full-time professionals across several cross-functional teams—Creative, Digital, Marketing, News, Special Events, Video, and WUOT 91.9FM.

Duties/Responsibilities
The marketing data analyst collects data and inputs from various sources, visualizes findings, and provides timely insights. Under the supervision of the digital marketing manager, the analyst will help optimize ongoing campaigns, improve content strategies, and inform long-term marketing decisions.

The analyst collaborates closely with colleagues to establish and track performance metrics for communications and marketing initiatives, monitors performance data on the university's digital platforms, and develops and maintains social listening and media monitoring tools to track online conversations about the university. Information gleaned from online listening helps inform the university’s response to issues and crises.

 The marketing data analyst plans, coordinates, and executes qualitative and quantitative audience research initiatives. The analyst understands the behaviors and perspectives of our audiences and advocates on their behalf.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ideal candidate is curious and analytical with an ability to interpret the stories behind the data. Required knowledge, skills, and experiences include:

  • Knowledge of digital analytics platforms, social and online listening platforms, and data visualization tools
  • Knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Demonstrated ability to go beyond the “what” and tell the “why” within research results
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills
  • Knowledge of communication and marketing principles, concepts, techniques, and applications
  • Excellent time-management, project management, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to act professionally and represent the office in interactions with stakeholders, including university administrators
  • Ability to work accurately with strong attention to detail

Qualifications
Required: Associates degree and at least four years of related professional experience OR bachelor's degree and at least two years of related professional experience

Preferred: Experience working as a member of a marketing team, experience with data analysis programming languages (e.g. SQL, Python)

Salary
The market range for this position is MR09. Hiring salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
