The Northeast Center to Advance Food Safety (NECAFS) seeks a Research Specialist to conduct literature-based reviews on the subject of produce safety, interpret research findings and create educational materials that will provide research-based solutions to fruit and vegetable producers. We seek candidates with a background in produce safety and literature-based research. Candidates should be skilled at gathering and reviewing food safety related material for relevancy and accuracy for the intended audience. This position will be part of a team where members work remotely so should be skilled at communicating and coordinating with teleconferencing platforms and working remotely.



  • Coordinate and implement comprehensive literature review research on various produce safety topics including water, wildlife, soil, food contact surfaces, and pathogen prevalence and survivability
  • Plan, design, and develop complex research objectives, projects, and grant proposals in collaboration with partners across the nation
  • Organize and implement webinars, fact sheets, and interactive online content, promoting information exchange in support of stakeholders
  • Support drafting annual reports, and other communication outputs · Writing, editing, proofreading of educational materials
  • Maintain working relationships with existing agencies (state and federal), community-based organizations, and other extension produce safety educators and researchers


Minimum Qualifications:

Masters of Science in a related field or equivalent 1 years of experience in a related position preferred. Experience in on-farm produce safety, such as GAPs and/or FSMA PSR or in a related field. Experience with literature-based research in scientific disciplines. Experience with adult education approaches. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
