Unit Mission Statement
The Dean of Students Office assists all students, graduate and undergraduate, from their initial orientation though the completion of their academic and personal goals. The Dean of Students Office staff advocates for students needs, acts as liaison between student and academic departments, and provides support designed to enhance personal growth and instill a sense of personal authority and responsibility in each student.
Position Summary
The Vice Dean (VD) for Student Success serves as a member of the Dean of Students Leadership Team and principal advisor to the Dean of Students. The Student Success Thematic Area is a proactive, student-centered group of professionals who support and advise undergraduate and graduate students on their academic journey, both inside and outside the classroom. Focusing on self-awareness, autonomy, accountability, and advocacy, Student Success serves to support each student’s well-being and engagement needs in times of daily support, celebration, and crisis.
Reporting directly to the Dean of Students, the Vice Dean provides secondary leadership to all functions under the Dean of Students and is a primary point of contact for students, staff, faculty, families, and other stakeholders. The incumbent manages the daily operations, administration, and budget for the Dean of Students Office. The Vice Dean will lead with purpose, demonstrating a commitment to furthering our dedication to community care, restorative practice, civil discourse, and belonging.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Managing the operating budget and gifts, including forecasting expenditures and revenues.
- Supervising the Directors of Care Support Services and Parent and Family Programs.
- Managing high-level student and family crises and maintaining a strong, visible presence on campus and at student events.
- Assisting staff in developing grant proposals and participating in external fundraising activities.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a related discipline OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Significant professional experience in Student Affairs, demonstrating increasing responsibilities.
- Leadership experience that includes experience managing professional-level employees, as well as fiscal oversight/budget management.
- Experience with emergency and crisis management.
- Excellent communication skills including the ability to successfully work with a diverse population of students, faculty, parents, and constituents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate or terminal degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field.
- Experience with program planning and implementation.
- Experience with and demonstrated understanding of FERPA, Title IX, and ADA laws.
- Significant supervisory experience with a collaborative approach to management.
- Demonstrated commitment to restorative practice and social justice.

Up to $105,000 commensurate with relevant education and experience
