The First Year Advisor reports directly to the Executive Vice President. This position is primarily responsible for the assisting in the successful transition and matriculation of new student learners. In addition, the position will be responsible for advising and advocacy for all undeclared majors in their first year of study at the college. This is a 12-month salaried position. RESPONSIBILITIES - Respond quickly and effectively to the needs of new students - Build and develop relationships with new students and assisting students in their first year of college process - Work in tandem with faculty, staff, activity directors, current students, parents to aid in the transition of students - Develop knowledge and profile of each student and help growth opportunities and areas of concern - Work cooperatively across campus helping students navigate the college including: Academic Support, Financial Aid, Student Life, Housing and other co-curricular activities. - Assist the Executive Vice President with tracking retention efforts, access processes, and measure results - Work alongside the Assistant Director of Student Success to help other students that require academic support and advocacy. - Plan and present at on-campus activities such as general information sessions on student success, retention, and being an undeclared major. - Work with Admissions and other areas of the college regarding undeclared majors - Meet with prospective students and parents who have not declared a major - Coordinate meetings between students and faculty, athletic coaches, and other current students. REQUIREMENTS: - Bachelor's Degree is required. Master's preferred - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking. - Ability to think strategically and creatively to respond to challenges and opportunities for new students - Strong skills in the use of technology-based information systems, using tools such as Excel, Word, Web, Email, and various social media platforms. - Flexibility and positive attitude. Ability to work effectively independently and as a member of a team. - Ability to work nights and weekends and participate in variety of student activities and events. - Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
