Academic Success Coach Position Overview As an Academic Success Coach you will be on the front lines of learner engagement, success and persistence. You will interact with PS learners, both current and prospective, on a daily basis and will be the catalyst that moves them towards greater academic and personal success. You will be responsible for helping them move through their academic program(s) in the most efficient and successful way possible, all while keeping their ultimate educational and life goals in mind. Duties will include, but not be limited to: Success Coaching - Engage in regularly scheduled, proactive outreach during each session to your entire list of active learners via the following methods in order of preference 1) Telephone or In Person, 2) Email, 3) Other commonly used and readily available mediums (IM, Collaborate, Blackboard Shells, Discussion Boards, etc...) according to Academic Success Coaches best practices manual. - Facilitate delivery of success tools and resources for learners using the above outreach criteria. - Collaborate with other members of the Academic Success Coaching team, Professional Studies personnel and campus personnel as needed. - Engage in personal and professional development pertaining to learner success, persistence and graduation. - Track and report on personal outreach activity and persistence results each session. - Exceed learner expectations and positively impact on learner survey results (e.g., end of course evaluations, alumni survey, National Survey of Student Engagement). Academic Advising - Assist learners with major selection, scheduling, transfer credit, course selection and degree planning. - Counsel learners as to all academic and operational policies and procedures and adhere to FERPA guidelines. - Perform operational duties as necessary including data entry, learner file management, special learner requests, and application for graduation following institutional procedures and policies. - Assist with the enrollment management activities each session realizing all Professional Studies enrollment goals. - Maintain the accuracy and integrity of learner records and files as well as the institutional database. - Actively review learner records as needed to monitor progress, identify problems, and evaluate degree checks to assist learners in obtaining educational goals with special attention to learner enrollment, success, satisfaction and persistence. - Serve as a learner advocate while maintaining institutional policy. - Maintain communication with assigned advisees to mitigate stop-out situations and retain learners to assist them in obtaining educational goals. - Engage advising best practices and continuous improvement strategies. - Actively solicit referrals from current learners and provide lead information to Admissions Counselors for follow-up. - Work collaboratively with other staff members to provide a full range of learner services (e.g., direct learners to Financial Aid Assistant if applicable). - Provide insights/perspectives into the generation/acquisition of relevant e-mail lists and/or mailing lists for ongoing direct communication initiatives. Collaboration - Ensure college policies are being enforced by having a thorough knowledge of all academic and operational policies. - Work closely with all Professional Studies staff and main campus support offices (e.g., Registrar, Financial Aid) in order to facilitate learner services and to ensure all center functions are being conducted and goals are being attained. - Serve on college and/or Professional Studies committees as appropriate. - Provide a professional, collegial atmosphere when representing Professional Studies or Southwestern College as a whole to the general public, campus offices, faculty members, learners and other staff members. - Perform additional duties as assigned.
